There were good teachers in their time. I once came to the editorial office of a very serious publication with a photo service. And one friend who worked there as a builder asked him to go and shoot something for them. They told me right away that staffing was out of the question. Well, for the fees please. But they won’t give me a document or any piece of paper that I take from them. That is, fuck as you want.

But I was interested in just learning how to shoot well, and having my photos selected by professionals, and not just when someone on the Internet tells you that they say it’s complete crap. Or, on the contrary, that they say it’s awesome. All this costs nothing. But when someone comments on your shoot and selects photos for the internal photo bank of a build in the photo service of one of the largest publishing houses, then this is already serious. And I worked for them for about a year.

But it is very difficult for them to shoot - the filming must be taken to the editorial office on the same day. Even if you were just shooting some kind of feature - well, that is, just a genre photo - like the first day of spring, or the first snow, or the first of September. But bringing footage to the editorial office is also not enough. You need to give the flash drive to the builds, then wait for a while. And on a flash drive there shouldn’t be two thousand pictures, twenty-five identical. That is, you need to select the most successful ones directly on the carcass in advance. So that there are no blurry frames, as well as any unsuccessful ones.

This is quite difficult to do not on a computer, but directly on the carcass. And on the good side, you need to learn to immediately shoot exactly the frame you need, without hoping that you will then frame it on your computer. No, you need to frame it immediately using the glass zoom. This is also difficult because it is difficult to do without good glass and without a good camera because the closer you aim, the more difficult it is to get into sharpness because the camera automatically adjusts the shutter speed longer and the so-called shake appears.

In general, the editors of the build advised me to find some old unclassified manual for snipers from the Second World War, and read it carefully. And shoot something exactly as a sniper shoots. In order to avoid movement and an out-of-focus frame in this way.
In general, a professional photo can be identified by its very good sharpness. As a rule, this is almost an indispensable condition for professional photography - so that everything that is needed is in the frame with ringing sharpness. The so-called soap or blur on crop is unacceptable.

The given flash drive should contain no more than fifty of the most successful frames. Of these, if the builds selected ten or five, then that’s good. But at first they didn’t take anything away. Then I kind of started to get into the topic. But I didn’t take pictures often. Once a week no more than once. More often than not, there simply wasn’t enough time because it took all day to shoot. After, say, ten photos were selected by the builds, it was necessary to go to another department to the aunties who described all the incoming photos to the photo bank. If we say a close-up of someone in the photo, then we definitely need to tell these aunties who it is. His full name, position and what he is doing in the photo right now.

And thus it was necessary to describe each photo in detail. What is depicted there and for what reason. And therefore, during the shooting, it was not enough to just take pictures, but it was also necessary to remove all the inscriptions, take all the booklets that were at the event, the business cards of those people whom I photographed. If you don’t have business cards, write down or take a photo of the names and positions of these people. And all this took a lot of time at the event itself, and then to describe all this in the editorial office too.

That’s why I didn’t shoot for them often. But I tried not to have any big gaps.
But the staff photographers told me that I just needed to learn how to shoot, and then this would be the rest of my life. That is, it’s like riding a bike or ice skating. You just develop some kind of sense of beauty in relation to photographs, based on which you yourself already see what you took - crap or something decent. Moreover, you learn to distinguish between, let’s say, what definitely won’t work, and also what will work, but what will work for a C, what for a B, and what’s just awesome.
