Вот оказывается откуда пошло название термина кандаулезизм. Суть этой сексуальной девиации заключается в потребности демонстрировать своего обнаженного партнера посторонним людям.
Картина Уильяма Этти, носящая скромное нейтральное название, «Неосторожность Кандавла», изображает совершенно неприличную историю из «Истории» Геродота. Полное название этого полотна, написанного в 1830 году, раскрывает всю неоднозначность изображенной на ней сцены. Кандавл, царь Лидии, украдкой показывает свою жену Гигу одному из своих слуг, когда она ложится в кровать




Царь Кандавл решил тайком показать свою супругу Нису телохранителю Гигу, но его замысел был раскрыт женщиной. Ниса потребовала у Гига, чтобы тот убил или ее, или мужа-извращенца, после чего Кандавла цинично зарезали прямо в его спальне.
