As for the fact that what those engineers built is still standing, then the safety margin was taken into account several times, materials were lying around everywhere and no one saved them, fuel was poured into ravines in order to add kilometers and get ten rubles more in salary. The metal back then was real, not from accelerated smelting from rusty scrap metal, and they didn’t skimp on energy. Real reinforcement was used in reinforced concrete, not polymer, and much more, which in itself does not last long.
