Alcoholic drinks
Forum members, what do we use that is strong (or low-grade)? Who prefers what to while away the evening or (well, you never know?) to improve your health in the morning?
I’m more into whiskey. Unfortunately, now it has practically disappeared from stores, and many fakes have appeared in the form of colored vodka, but sometimes you still come across the real thing. Upon returning from vacation, I always took a bottle or two from the detik, no cheating here. I prefer American bourbon, and undiluted. As for other drinks, rum is also good. In economy class, brandy will do just fine. I don’t like vodka, it doesn’t taste good. I still don’t understand Tequila. Unfortunately, I don’t know much about wines. And beer, in my opinion, is evil.

In the middle of the week I can have a beer (from the Zhiguli boiler), on Friday it’s a sin not to drink cognac, by the way, I take the “elder”, it’s not expensive, it’s not disgusting, and it doesn’t make my head buzz in the morning!

Re: Alcoholic drinks
I prefer my own production. I’ve been doing it for fifteen years now, one might say professionally. Jack, Calvados, barbecue, gin, did everything except tequila, it’s impossible to fake it for real. But I settled on a couple of recipes. For the stronger half and a few for the ladies. There were never any complaints.

I’m mainly friends with the green fairy
Not often, but sometimes I mix myself absinthe-based cocktails. I’ve been to Prague; the (sub)culture of absinthe consumption is well developed there, even more noticeable than in France. I visited the local absentery with friends, very atmospheric establishments, of course. I love Martini Blanco. There are no other special preferences.

Re: Alcoholic drinks
What time of year? In summer, Pinot Grigio, preferably Venetto, with ice or cold soda. Or green Portuguese. It’s all still there.
In winter - softer cognac, like Courvoisier or good Armenian, or whiskey with apple juice or on the rocks.
Riga balsam with cream or mango juice (pour cream or mango juice into a glass, and pour a viscous tart balm over the top of the knife, then it lies on the top layer, and when you drink, first the bitter balm gets into your mouth, and then already - a mild taste of mango or cream).
And, and Jägermeister is also for cold evenings, just be sure to come from the freezer. It should be drunk from a small liqueur glass, wrapped in a blanket and slightly feeling sorry for yourself, in the cold winter.
I don’t like vodka, it makes me sad. Rum somehow didn’t work either, I don’t know....

Re: Alcoholic drinks
...Actually, I don’t drink, so to speak. It’s just that my alcohol consumption rate is insignificant. If fortified drinks are 40 degrees, then their quantity is up to 100 ml, no more.
Favorite drinks are champagne. On New Year’s Day, during the day - from 23:00 on December 31 until the end of January 1, I manage a bottle of champagne myself. Well, plus 100 ml. cognac This is my daily New Year’s norm. This is my most "drinking" day of the year. And then - only on holidays: up to 100 ml of cognac or up to 300 ml of good wine or champagne.
As for vodka.... It happens in winter, when you are chilled, when you feel like you have a cold, then 30-50 grams. vodka with pepper (Pertzovki).
P.S. ....And, of course, a prerequisite is a SNACK.

Re: Alcoholic drinks
The deepest misconception, unless we are talking about fake cognac or whiskey. Vodka is practically the only drink in the world based on rectified alcohol. All other strong drinks (cognacs and brandies are a slightly different story) are essentially moonshine, that is, distillate alcohols. Vodka is a diluted alcohol with flavorings, produced in large quantities in large factories. And in general, it is not clear why vodka is considered an original Russian drink. This is moonshine, which, unlike vodka (see above). And in terms of its effect on the body, the rectified product is undoubtedly more harmful than the distillate, even if the latter contains fusel oils. Rectified, as a purer chemical, is absorbed faster and penetrates cell membranes, therefore it destroys brain cells faster.
As if indirect confirmation. You can also remember Dostoevsky.Hooligan Carrie: ↑11 Oct 2023, 15:03 I don’t like vodka, it makes me sad.

Re: Alcoholic drinks
In general, it’s better not to drink too much...
nI disagree. Any production method produces alcohol (or rather, a mixture of substances). At the same time, rectification makes it possible to obtain significantly purer ethyl alcohol - 99....%. Distillation, even with double distillation, will never provide such purity and, despite cutting off the heads and tails, the moonshine will contain a certain amount of aldehydes and fusel oils and methyl alcohol itself. In this case, moonshine poisoning does not occur because Ethanol is also an antidote to Methanol... That is. in fact, methanol poisoning when taking moonshine (and other distillers) still occurs but is compensated by taking a much larger dose of Ethanol.
In general, it’s better not to drink too much...

Re: Alcoholic drinks
It is believed that vodka is an original Russian alcoholic drink and it was born in Rus’, but with this Not all vodka producers agreed with this and tried to appropriate this brand for themselves. At the end of the 70s of the 20th century, a “case” was provoked regarding the priority of using the “vodka” brand by a number of American companies; they tried to challenge the priority of the Soviet Union and assign themselves a preemptive right on the basis that they allegedly began production earlier than Soviet companies, but they were never able to prove this.
Oddly enough, Poland seriously tried to appropriate this brand, justifying this by the fact that vodka was invented and produced on its territory earlier than in Russia, since Ukraine and Belarus at that time were part of Poland. The matter reached International Arbitration: in 1978, a trial began over the primacy of the vodka brand. In the USSR there was no evidence of the origin of vodka on its territory. The Soviet historian William Pokhlebkin took on the task of resolving this issue and proved that vodka is of Russian origin, it was born in the 15th century, a hundred years earlier than in Poland, and this was associated with the decline and death of the Byzantine Empire in 1453. Since 1982, by the decision of the International Arbitration, the USSR was assigned the priority of creating vodka as the original Russian alcoholic drink.
The word “vodka” meaning “alcoholic drink” appears in the Russian language around the 16th century, in 1533 in the Novgorod chronicle the word “vodka” is mentioned to designate a medicine, an alcohol tincture. Since the middle of the 17th century, there have been written documents where the word “vodka” is used to designate an alcoholic drink. Since 1731, the term “vodka” began to be widely used to designate strong pure alcoholic drinks other than grape wines.
By the beginning of the 19th century, the word “vodka” meant exclusively flavored vodkas made according to noble recipes XVIII century. During the 19th century, the term “bread wine” was replaced by the term “vodka”, and from the middle of the 19th century this term acquired its basic meaning in the current understanding and spread in the Russian language.
